We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service

The group decided to record after their Tonight Show reunion on 13 November 2015. The album was made over nearly a year at Q-Tip's home studio, the AbLab in New Jersey, which he designed with his longtime engineer Blair Wells. Wells is credited as co-producer. Ali Shaheed Muhammad could not co-produce because he was working on the Luke Cage soundtrack with Adrian Younge. Q-Tip and Phife Dawg spent four months together on it, with Phife Dawg flying in from his home, where he was receiving dialysis three times a week. Phife Dawg chose the title. He died on 22 March 2016, and Q-Tip finished the record. Q-Tip told the Guardian that he stopped many times because he could not go on hearing Phife Dawg's vocals.

Guests include André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Elton John, Kanye West, Anderson .Paak, Talib Kweli, Consequence and Busta Rhymes. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 135,000 units, the group's second chart-topper and their first since 1996, and was certified gold on 22 May 2017. The Guardian's Kitty Empire called it a poignant comeback. Pitchfork's Kris Ex wrote that it reinvigorates the group's discography without resting on nostalgia. Metacritic averaged its reviews at 91.
