It was the first single AC/DC released with Brian Johnson on vocals, and it reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, the band's first US top 40 hit. It was re-released internationally in 1986 after the Who Made Who soundtrack. The song is in G major, and its riff follows a G, C, D progression. Michael Hann of The Guardian, who ranked it number 12 among the band's 40 greatest songs, called it a simple explosion of sexual joy set to a Stonesy riff that bursts into a huge chorus.
Authorship is disputed. The credits read Young, Young and Johnson. Silver Smith, Scott's girlfriend, told the biographer Jesse Fink that the line "She told me to come but I was already there" was written by Scott in 1976, and Malcolm Dome said he saw it in Scott's lyric notebook. Johnson says he wrote the lyrics himself.
There are two videos. The first was directed by Eric Dionysius and Eric Mistler in 1980. David Mallet directed the second in 1986 in Huddersfield, with Angus and Malcolm following Johnson around the town. The band played the song on Saturday Night Live in 2000. They performed it with Steven Tyler at the 2003 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and Johnson sang it with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden in March 2014. Of the 2,183 logged setlists that list songs, 1,263 include it, the earliest being a show at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on 28 July 1980.
