After the success of Kings of the Wild Frontier the band returned to AIR Studios in London to complete a third album. Chris Hughes produced and drummed on both records. Stand and Deliver, the lead single, was cut between albums and was not part of the sessions. Prince Charming spent three weeks at number 2 after its release in November 1981. Its title track was a number one single for four weeks in September 1981, and a third single, Ant Rap, reached number 3 in January 1982.
Alexis Petridis, who was nine at the time and a devoted fan, wrote in the Guardian that he did not like the album anywhere near as much as Kings of the Wild Frontier. The band was among the most successful single acts in Britain in 1981, and Stand and Deliver and Prince Charming were the third and fourth best-selling singles of the year. Ant split the group in March 1982.
