Ageispolis is the fourth track on Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and runs 5:21. The Guardian's Geeta Dayal ranked it fourth in her 2019 list of his best songs, describing a grand, cinematic sweep and a tight arrangement with an acute sense of pacing and drama, which she took as evidence of his talent as a songwriter as well as a producer. Simon Reynolds called its melody Satie-esque and set it against an incongruously strident, unrelenting beat.
Dayal wrote that pretty much any track on the album could appear on such a list, naming Pulsewidth, Ptolemy and We Are the Music Makers, and picked Heliosphan as a particular high point. On the album Ageispolis sits between Pulsewidth and the beatless I, which Pitchfork's Philip Sherburne called the only track on the album to suggest anything like the purity of ambient music at its most ephemeral.
