Released through Sonovox for the physical edition, with Columbia and Rough Trade. The band produced it with Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk and Steve Mackey of Pulp. Markus Dravs co-produced two tracks, and he, Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Eric Heigle each gave additional production on one track. It leans on synth-pop and dance-rock. Craig Silvey mixed it and Greg Calbi mastered it. Daniel Lanois played pedal steel, and Owen Pallett and Sarah Neufeld played strings.

The campaign was elaborate. In May 2017 the band played six new songs at a secret Montreal show, and a Twitter account posing as a Russian spambot leaked clues. The lead single went on sale on 12-inch vinyl at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on 31 May. A satirical "Everything Now Corp" supplied fake articles, a fake Rock Band game and fake product ads, and the booklet imitated a supermarket flyer with song lengths printed as prices. The cover shows a JR installation in Death Valley, a billboard of a mountain range placed in front of the real one. The Infinite Content tour took the album across Europe and the Americas and ran into 2018.

Reception

It reached number one in the US, UK and Canada. In the US it debuted with 100,000 units, 94,000 of them pure sales, the band's third US number one. Five singles were released: "Everything Now", "Creature Comfort", "Signs of Life", "Electric Blue" and "Put Your Money on Me". Metacritic scored it 66 from 39 reviews.

Barry Nicolson gave it five stars in NME. Will Hermes of Rolling Stone praised its lyrics, while Alexis Petridis of the Guardian called it flawed in a mixed review. Jon Pareles of the New York Times liked the title song but found the rest slighter, and Pitchfork's Jeremy Larson wrote that the songs succumb to their social critique. Slant's Jeremy Winograd called it the band's most upbeat and easily digestible album, and Brendan Frank of Pretty Much Amazing wrote that it was manufactured rather than made.
