Do I Wanna Know?

Turner wrote the lyrics, and the band first played the song on 22 May 2013 in Ventura, California, at the first show of the AM tour, where it often opened the set. It was released as a single on 19 June 2013, available on iTunes the moment it appeared, with no promotion, alongside a video directed by David Wilson with the animation agency Blinkink. The video's moving white sound waves echo the AM cover.

It entered the UK chart at number 11 and spent 65 weeks in the UK top 100. In the United States it reached number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in January 2014 and peaked at number 70 on the Hot 100, the band's first entry there. It was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 2015 Grammys, losing to Jack White's Lazaretto. Guitar World ranked its riff third among the best of the decade.

The Guardian's 2013 write-up heard a creeping, groove-led crawl, with Turner's Sheffield accent still audible on the word summat. Rolling Stone named it tenth in its best songs of 2013, describing the groove as monstrously badass. Hozier, Sam Smith, Chvrches, Dua Lipa and Dove Cameron are among those who have covered it.
