Jurriaan Hage reported that Chosen was meant to be the album's title track. It was recorded at Thin Ice Studios between December 1999 and March 2000, produced by Nolan and Simon Hanhart, with the album's new singer Rob Sowden. Nolan wrote the words, and the music is credited to Nolan, Mitchell and Pointer.

It opens with the buzz of an insect swarm, then what Gary Hill heard as an almost alterno-metal drum and vocal intro, before a big chorus and a guitar solo reviewers likened to David Gilmour. Planet Mellotron noted real Mellotron strings and heavy use of Taurus pedals. For DPRP, Ed Sander called it "one of the heaviest songs Arena has ever written", though he disliked the keyboard sound Nolan chose for his solo, and Neil Durant called it a strong opener. Hage found it typically catchy, and warned that the modern opening might put some listeners off. A 3:47 edit went out on a Metal Hammer cover CD in July 2000, and the full version on cover discs for Rock Hard and Classic Rock.

Live

Arena first played it on 18 May 2000 at the Teatro Providencia in Santiago, Chile, and setlist.fm logs 68 performances, most of them in 2003 and 2005. It appears on the live albums Breakfast in Biarritz and Live & Life, the DVDs Caught in the Act and Smoke & Mirrors, the compilation Ten Years On and the book set From the Beginning, recorded at Veruno in Italy on 8 September 2019, its last logged performance. The upload in the hypersongs web is the album version.
