Every Day I Have the Blues

A blues standard that King made his theme, opening Live at the Regal.
B.B. King, from Live at the Regal (1955)

Released
1955
Album
Live at the Regal

An early version is credited to Pinetop Sparks and his brother Milton, recorded in 1935. Memphis Slim reworked it in 1949, and Lowell Fulson's 1950 adaptation reached number three on the R&B chart. King recorded it in 1955 at Capitol's old studio on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. Arranger Maxwell Davis wrote the chart, and King said it gave him an atmosphere that let him relax. Joe Bihari recalled that they plugged King's guitar straight into the board.

RPM issued it backed with Sneakin' Around, and it reached number eight on the R&B chart. King said he made it his theme. It opens Live at the Regal and, in a fast short version, Live in Cook County Jail. His recording is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and the Blues Foundation inducted it in 2019.
