Clawhammer first appeared on a flexi disc folded into a Cheree fanzine, sharing it with Spacemen 3. Sutton has said it was recorded in two hours, or in five minutes, and in 1994 called it not worth the plastic it was printed on. Tiny Mix Tapes heard feedback squalls and heavy drums close to early My Bloody Valentine, a world away from Hex. It opened their first logged gig in July 1988. The upload in the hypersongs web is taken from Replay.
