Master and Everyone

A sparse, wintry follow-up to I See a Darkness.
Bonnie "Prince" Billy, 2003

Released
2003
Label
Drag City

Released on Drag City in 2003, it is credited to Will Oldham, Paul Oldham, Tony Crow on keyboards, William Tyler on guitar, Matt Swanson on tambourine, Gary Lee Tussing on cello, Marty Slayton on vocals and John Kelton on whistle. It scored 83 from 11 reviews at Metacritic, and NME named it the 37th best album of 2003.

Brent S. Sirota of Pitchfork called it a fine record, sparse and ruminative, with a stark whiteness of bare branches and gathering dark, but said it never reaches the black solemnity of I See a Darkness. Stereogum noted that it tipped the scales to lo-fi for the first time since Arise Therefore. Rain Taxi reports that Alan Licht, who later edited the interview book with Oldham, played on the recording.
