Recorded in November 1973 and produced by David Hitchcock, Mirage did not chart in Britain but reached 149 in the United States, which led to a three-month American tour. The success of The White Rider, built on a story, prompted the band to base a whole album on one. Rolling Stone placed Mirage 21st among its 50 essential prog albums, and Prog readers voted it 51st in 2014.
