Heaven Tonight
The third album, home of Surrender.
Cheap Trick, 1978
- Released
- 24 April 1978
- Label
- Epic
- Producer
- Tom Werman
Produced by Tom Werman and released by Epic, it was the first album recorded with a 12-string electric bass. The front cover shows Zander and Petersson and the back shows Nielsen and Carlos. The record company suggested calling it American Standard, which the band disliked. It opens with Surrender and also holds Auf Wiedersehen, the title track and a cover of the Move's California Man. Nielsen played mandocello, harpsichord and cello on the title track. A 1998 reissue added bonus tracks.
Nielsen said his song Surrender drew on his own life, including an aunt who served in the Women's Army Corps.
