Milk & Kisses came out on Fontana in the United Kingdom on 15 April 1996 and on Capitol in the United States on 14 May 1996. It was recorded at Pors Poulhan in Bretagne and at September Sound in London, and mixed at September Sound. Fraser took the title from a friend who, comforting her, said they wished they could replace the poison in her with milk and kisses. Guthrie said that recording took two months, which was amazing for them.

Rilkean Heart was an homage to Jeff Buckley. Faye Wong recorded a Chinese version of Serpentskirt with Fraser singing backing vocals, and Sarah Brightman covered Eperdu in 2013. Raymonde said in 2021 that he always felt the record sounded muffled, and that it turned out to be the band's last. Melody Maker's Mark Luffman wrote at the time that it would be an Enya album if the band put their photos on the sleeves.
