The 1962 studio album was the first recording Frank Sinatra made with Basie. Neal Hefti arranged it. Sinatra sang its arrangement of Please Be Kind on The Dinah Shore Show on December 9, 1962, the day before the album came out. Basie was unfamiliar with some of the material, and Sinatra's longtime pianist Bill Miller played piano on Pennies from Heaven. A second studio album, It Might as Well Be Swing, followed in 1964, and Sinatra at the Sands in 1966 featured the Basie band live.
