Recorded with Jon Kelly at AIR for Raintown, it features B.J. Cole on pedal steel. Ross told the Daily Record in 2012 that it is about a relationship that sounded bad, and said he dislikes sexist love songs, citing Wonderful Tonight; the Herald described its subject as a dysfunctional Don Juan.

In May 1988 Michael Brauer remixed it with a longer instrumental middle and more pedal steel, and his version became the album's last single on 4 July 1988, reaching 43 in the UK. The 12 inch added an extended remix and live versions of Dignity and Love's Great Fears. The band first played it at the Marquee in London on 20 November 1986 and still do: setlist.fm logs 228 performances, their tenth most played song. The upload in the hypersongs web is the official music video, directed in 1988 by Tony van den Ende.
