Made in July 1973 at Advision, soon after Phil Shulman's departure, it was produced by the band with Gary Martin. Columbia judged it uncommercial and dropped Gentle Giant, so it had no American release until 1992. Derek Shulman remembered the period as a weird one and the recording as tortuous. The closing title track hides a short recap of the album, known as Index.
