Released on 22 April 1996 as the second single from Older, it is an energetic song about wanting gratification and fulfilment without commitment. It was written by Michael, Patrice Rushen, Freddie Washington and Terri McFaddin and interpolates Rushen's 1982 single Forget Me Nots. The team did not sample the record. They recreated its bass and vocal hook, and the interpolation was added to the outro late, taking another two weeks. Michael and Jon Douglas produced it. The first version had a bossa nova rhythm. Douglas built a new arrangement around Michael's vocal and Andy Hamilton's saxophone, adding drums, effects, orchestral stabs and scratches on an Akai MPC3000. Engineer Dave Clews said Michael would not allow his vocals to be pitch-corrected.
It was number one in the UK for three weeks, his seventh and last UK number one in his lifetime, and also topped the charts in Australia, Hungary, Italy and Spain. In the US it reached number eight. It earned Michael the Ivor Novello award for most performed work in 1996. Vaughan Arnell and Anthea Benton directed the video, in which a man flips through virtual reality characters from a black chair. It won the MTV Europe International Viewer's Choice Award, and one dancer's headphones read FONY, a nod to his dispute with Sony. The B-side was I'm Your Man '96, a remake of the Wham! song.
Michael played a different arrangement, the Summer Mix, on MTV Unplugged on 11 October 1996, and it opened the first leg of the 25 Live tour. Adele sang a slow version at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards on 12 February 2017 as a tribute to him. She stopped and restarted it because she was not satisfied, saying he was too important to her to not get it right.
