The final track of The Number of the Beast runs 7:08 and is credited to Harris. It tells the story of a man about to be hanged. The Guardian names it, with Run to the Hills and the title track, among the album's three classics.
The song has stayed in all but three of the band's tour setlists since it was recorded, and several band members have called it a favourite. Dickinson called it fantastic and said performing it live is like narrating a movie to the audience. A live version released in 1993 gave the band another top ten single in the UK, and a live recording made in 2002 was on the 2005 re-release of The Number of the Beast single. Another live version, from the film Flight 666, was made available for the Rock Band game.
