The Miners' Hymns was made with the filmmaker Bill Morrison in 2010 for brass band, pipe organ and electronics, on the subject of coal mining in County Durham. It premiered in Durham Cathedral in July 2010 and came out on CD and DVD in May 2011. Fiona Maddocks of The Observer gave its London debut at the Barbican five stars.

Jayson Greene reviewed the album for Pitchfork in June 2011. He described six pieces built from low tones echoing across a distance, separated by long silences, and a lonely horn figure in Freedom From Want and Fear. He noted that the album was recorded in a Durham cathedral, and that the final track, The Cause of Labour Is the Hope of the World, brings a warm brass chorale after two whining quarter tones.
