John Denver's Greatest Hits

Rather than simply gathering old tracks, Denver re-recorded seven songs for it, among them Leaving on a Jet Plane, Rhymes and Reasons, Sunshine on My Shoulders and Poems, Prayers and Promises. That new Leaving on a Jet Plane, his third recording of the song, is the version found on most later compilations. Take Me Home, Country Roads is the original 1971 recording. The album reached number one in the US and Canada and seven in the UK, stayed 176 weeks on the Billboard 200, and is certified nine times platinum. AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave it four and a half stars.
