Bill Leader recorded it at his place across the street from Renbourn's Camden Town garret; Renbourn said conditions had improved, though only as far as Leader's kitchen. The title track was named for the Monday market near the art school in Kingston and borrowed ideas he had heard Davey Graham play. McShee sang three traditional songs, and Jennifer de Montforte-Jones played oboe on One for William, which The Arts Desk called extraordinary. Pentangle later revisited Waltz on their debut.
The Living Tradition summed it up in one word, pivotal, and Ian Anderson of fRoots judged it the best of his three early solo records. It has been reissued by Castle and in the 2019 box Unpentangled.
