Most of it was recorded at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles over four nights in August 1974, with Cactus Tree and Real Good for Free taken from March shows in Los Angeles and Berkeley. The two middle sides are Mitchell alone, and the outer sides feature the L.A. Express: Tom Scott, Robben Ford, Larry Nash, Max Bennett and John Guerin. A Case of You appears solo, The Last Time I Saw Richard with the band. It reached number two in the United States and went gold.
