Released late in 1972 and produced by Paulinho Tapajós, Ben is the most concentrated of his early-1970s records. The collector and DJ Greg Caz wrote that virtually every one of its eleven tracks became either a hit or a widely loved favorite. Fio Maravilha, written about a Flamengo goal, won that year's International Song Festival in Maria Alcina's version; Taj Mahal closes the record at five and a half minutes, and its melody would later turn up in a Rod Stewart hit. The record is listed in The Mojo Collection.
