Most of the music was written before Hogarth joined, and John Helmer, commissioned earlier, wrote many of the lyrics. Hogarth called it the first album they wrote together, over a couple of weeks at a residential rehearsal studio near Brighton early in 1989, before the band moved into Hook End on 28 April. He contributed parts of Easter and The Space.

It reached seven in Britain and went gold. Mick Wall in Kerrang! said Hogarth was no Fish clone, and a 2024 Classic Rock review heard a subtle progression that peaked with Easter. Hooks in You, The Uninvited Guest and Easter were singles. After Me is on the CD only.
