Paul Lani was brought in to mix the album, but Mustaine grew irate at his way of handling things and fired him, and Michael Wagener mixed it instead. Four singles were issued: Hook in Mouth, Anarchy in the U.K., Mary Jane and In My Darkest Hour. Mustaine changed the lyrics of the Sex Pistols' Anarchy in the U.K. and later said he had simply heard them wrongly.

Penelope Spheeris's film The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years featured the band in 1988. The album is the only one with Behler and Young, and it was certified platinum in the United States in 1998.
