Recorded in three days at Cowboy Arms with Jim Rooney, it set her voice among Bela Fleck's banjo, Mark O'Connor's mandolin and fiddle and Lloyd Green's dobro and pedal steel, with Lyle Lovett on harmonies. Lovett is also the man dancing with her outside a Woolworth's on the cover, a picture of Love at the Five and Dime; as on other covers, she holds a book, here a Tennessee Williams biography. It was nominated for the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album and appears in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Its Goin' Gone became Kathy Mattea's first number one.
