Recorded in August 1981 with Adam Kidron, credited as assisted by Orange Juice, the album was funded by Rough Trade for Postcard but released by Polydor after the band moved labels. The title comes from a line in Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers' Hi Dear. It mixes Collins's songs with three by James Kirk, including Felicity, and a cover of Al Green's L.O.V.E. Love. It reached No. 21 in the UK. Malcolm Jack of the Guardian called it the finest of their four albums, and The Line of Best Fit called it the band's defining record.
