Little Sister was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman and first released as a single by Elvis Presley in 1961, when it reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a double A-side with (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame, and the pair also reached number one in the UK. Hank Garland played lead guitar on the original, Scotty Moore rhythm guitar, with the Jordanaires on backing vocals.
Cooder opened Bop Till You Drop with it in 1979 and it became his biggest hit, an R&B treatment of the Presley recording. His version reached number one in New Zealand. Others who have recorded the song include Dwight Yoakam, Rockpile with Robert Plant in 1981, The Nighthawks and Pearl Jam.
