Released in May 1977 and recorded in March at Polydor's Stratford Place studio, the debut reached number 20 in Britain. It carries the title-track single and two covers, Larry Williams's Slow Down and the Batman theme. Foxton said it was pretty much their live set, recorded live and finished in ten days.
On release it drew positive reviews. The NME's Phil McNeil wrote that Weller's songwriting captured the teen frustration vibe, and Robert Christgau said the band could put a song together.
