Days

A goodbye song about his sister Rosie, released as a single between albums.
The Kinks (1968)

Written by
Ray Davies
Released
28 June 1968

Ray Davies wrote it about his sister Rosie moving to Australia, and called it a goodbye song and an inspirational song. It was recorded between 27 May and June 1968 and released as a single on 28 June 1968 with "She's Got Everything" on the other side. Nicky Hopkins played keyboards. It reached number 12 in Britain and number 7 in the Dutch Top 40, and it appeared on early European editions of Village Green and as a bonus track. Ray has said he would like it played at his funeral.

Kirsty MacColl recorded it for her album Kite, released 19 June 1989, and her version also reached number 12 in Britain.

The 2004 Sanctuary reissue of Village Green carried a version of "Days" among its four bonus tracks on disc one, which Pitchfork called a knockout.
