The July 1978 single, with a refrain that still reads as a headline.

Released on EMI International in July 1978 with Let's Submerge on the B-side, Identity reached number 24 in the UK. It is the sixth track on the album's first side, and Ted Bunting plays saxophone on it.
Pitchfork's Jenn Pelly quotes its refrain, identity is the crisis, can't you see, and the lines asking whether you see yourself in the mirror, on the television screen and in the magazine. She calls it a most logical anthem for today. In the Guardian, Peter Bradshaw called it an amazing premonition of the culture wars of the twenty-first century. In 2022 FKA twigs directed and starred in a short film, Playscape, for the International Woolmark Prize, in which she and a group of dancers move to the song among Isamu Noguchi's sculptures at White Cube Bermondsey.
