All Eyez on Me was released on 13 February 1996 by Death Row and Interscope, distributed by PolyGram, and was his last album to come out in his lifetime. It followed an agreement under which he would make three albums for Death Row in return for his bail, and this double album served as the first two. Its working title was Euthanasia. Shakur explained the new title by saying the police, the Feds, women, jealous friends and loyal friends were all watching to see what he would do.
Guests included Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Redman, Method Man, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger, E-40 and the Outlawz. Johnny J and Daz Dillinger produced most of it, and DJ Quik mixed it. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with 566,000 copies in the first week. California Love and How Do U Want It, with K-Ci and JoJo, both reached number one on the Hot 100. Its sales reached 5,887,630 in the United States by September 2011, making it his best-selling album, and it was certified Diamond in 2014. Cheo Hodari Coker of the Los Angeles Times called it a 27-song, 133-minute gangster's paradise, and AllMusic's Steve Huey called it his magnum opus.
