Touré had turned to farming at Niafunké, so Nick Gold took a studio to him and set it up in an abandoned agricultural school in the town, with Jerry Boys engineering. Touré said it was recorded where the music belongs, in deep Mali. Robert Christgau gave it an A minus, and it was nominated for a Grammy.
