Bring the Noise

Anthrax and Public Enemy trade the song back and forth, then take it on tour.

Public Enemy's Bring the Noise was a 1987 single that became the first track on It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back in 1988. Its lyrics name-check Anthrax. Anthrax recorded their own version with Chuck D, sampling the vocals from the original. Chuck D said he "didn't take them wholehearted seriously" at first, but after the collaboration "it made too much sense". It appeared on the Anthrax compilation Attack of the Killer B's and as the last track on Public Enemy's Apocalypse 91... The Enemy Strikes Black.

The release was followed by a joint tour, and shows ended with both groups on stage performing the song. Anthrax first played it live in 1989, two years before the collaboration came out, and it has been a live staple since. VH1 ranked their recording number 12 on its 2006 list of the 40 greatest metal songs. The single also held a live Keep It in the Family and I'm the Man '91.
