Recorded between August 2003 and early 2004 at Hotel2Tango, it was released as a single on Rough Trade on 12 September 2005, with Brazil as the B-side. It follows Haiti on the album and shares a bass beat with that song's ending. It reached 19 in the UK and number one on the UK Indie chart, and is certified platinum in Canada. It was cited in the band's 2006 Juno nomination for Songwriter of the Year, and the video was nominated for Best Independent Video at the MuchMusic awards in 2005.
It often closes the band's sets, and as of July 2025 it was reported to be their most-performed song live. It was used in an episode of Six Feet Under in its fifth season and in a 2006 Product Red advert. Sophie Ellis-Bextor covered it in October 2011 for the Samaritans benefit Songs to Save a Life.
The band played it on Later with Jools Holland on 12 May 2005 and on Top of the Pops on 11 September 2005. It was one of the three songs for which the band won the 2006 Juno for Songwriter of the Year.
