Recorded at Thin Ice in the summer of 1996, mixed by Simon Hanhart at The Music Station in Birmingham and mastered at Abbey Road by Chris Blair, with Nolan producing and engineering. Every song is credited to Nolan and Pointer. As on the debut, long pieces such as Empire of a Thousand Days, Fool's Gold and the closing Sirens alternate with numbered parts of Crying for Help. A Mellotron that once belonged to Pallas supplies strings and choirs.
Planet Mellotron heard more of the same but judged it an improvement on the debut. Sputnikmusic's Mykhailo Pervushyn found it a somewhat tired, streamlined sequel, and the most easily digestible collection of Arena songs. The album reached digital services in January 2014.
