Drums were cut at Orchard Farm Studios in Buckinghamshire, vocals and bass at Thin Ice Studios, and guitars and keyboards at Arena Studios in London. Mike Stobbie produced, Nolan engineered and Teo Miller mixed. The record set long songs such as Valley of the Kings and the fourteen-minute Solomon against the first four parts of the Crying for Help series, and Marillion's Steve Rothery played guitar on Crying for Help IV. It was the band's first release on Verglas, catalogue VGCD001.
