Cassava Piece

Cassava Piece was one of the first productions on Pablo's Hot Stuff label, started in 1972. Discogs lists Hot Stuff 7-inch pressings of it dated 1973. Randall Grass noted that the title track of King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown is built on it, and that the album's bonus 1-2-3 Version reworks it. Robbie Shakespeare told Grass that the way Pablo and Tubby mixed it was very special.

Original Rockers carries it as the third track. The Mystic World of Augustus Pablo box set times its version at 2:33. Big Youth toasted over the rhythm, and Addis Pablo describes the original Cassava Piece riddim as the one that Baby I Love You So and Rockers Uptown came from. A live Cassava Piece from the Greek Theatre in Berkeley in 1984 is on the Live at the Greek Theater LP, issued for Record Store Day 2018.
