In the Street

Bell is the principal writer of In the Street, which sits third on the first side of #1 Record. Pitchfork's Stephen M. Deusner heard an infectious guitar lick and rebel-poetry lyrics in it, in it. A single mix of the song was the B-side of When My Baby's Beside Me.

Setlist.fm logs 36 performances, more than any other Big Star song. In 1998 a shortened version recorded by Todd Griffin became the theme of the sitcom That '70s Show, and in 1999 Cheap Trick recorded a new version, That '70s Song (In the Street). The 1999 album That '70s Album (Rockin') includes it alongside Big Star's own September Gurls.
