Cold Blooded Old Times was the second single from Knock Knock and was the b-side of the original Drag City release of Held. Philip Sherburne wrote in Pitchfork that it picks up the skip and shuffle of Ex-Con from Red Apple Falls and sounds at first almost peppy, a dance number with a catchy chorus. Listening past the strumming and handclaps, he hears a story of abuse in which a father beat his wife and terrified his children.
Sherburne pulls out the line about memories that turn your bones to glass as one of the all-time great lines in Callahan's work. The song appeared on the soundtrack of the 2000 film High Fidelity.
