Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Desmond Child wrote it, Bruce Fairbairn produced it, and Mercury released it on 12 September 1988 as the lead single from New Jersey. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and was also a top-10 hit in Australia, Canada, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands and New Zealand. It came from the second batch of songs written for the album.

There are two videos. The better known one begins with a crowd of young people waiting to get into the shoot, and the comedian Sam Kinison asks whether it will be the same video slop from these glam rock pretty boys. He then rallies the crowd to take the cameras. Louder reports that fan-club members were given Super 8 movie cameras to film footage for the video. Cash Box said that Fairbairn and Jon made gang harmonies around a typically monumental guitar sound.
