Sweet Forgiveness, her sixth album, was produced by Paul A. Rothchild and engineered by John Haeny and Roger Mayer. Her cover of the Del Shannon hit Runaway was issued as a single and reached No. 57 on the US singles chart. Two Lives, by Mark T. Jordan, was also a single. The songs came from Jackson Browne, Karla Bonoff, Eric Kaz, Bill Payne and Paul Siebel among others, and the players included Norton Buffalo on harmonica, Freebo, David Grisman, Michael McDonald and JD Souther. Rolling Stone said she had "abandoned her flowing naturalness for a plodding roughness".
