Social Living, also known as Marcus' Children, was released in 1978 and produced by Karl Pitterson and Burning Spear. It was recorded at Harry J Studio in Kingston and at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, with Sylvan Morris as engineer, and mixed at Compass Point by Pitterson and Benji Armbrister. Aswad provided backing, and Sly Dunbar and Rico Rodriguez also play on it. A dub version, Living Dub, followed in 1979, mixed by Morris.

Christgau gave it an A-, finding it less militant and archetypal than Marcus Garvey but a record whose music is all charity and cooperation. He pointed to the title song, where Rodney preaches that social living is the best. Sinéad O'Connor later covered Marcus Say Jah No Dead on her 2005 album Throw Down Your Arms.
