King plays piano and sings, with James Taylor on acoustic guitar, Russ Kunkel on drums, Charles Larkey on bass and Curtis Amy on flute. Pitchfork wrote that it came to her on the road, and called it the record's sparest song. The lyric expresses longing for a lover far away.
Rod Stewart's 1995 cover, from the tribute album Tapestry Revisited, peaked at number two on the US Adult Contemporary chart. The song appears in Sofia Coppola's 1999 film The Virgin Suicides. Paste ranked it fourth of the twelve greatest Carole King songs in 2017, and American Songwriter placed it second of ten in 2022.
