VI was the second album the Wonderful lineup made for Relativity Records. Karat Faye produced and engineered, and Edward J. Repka designed the sleeve. The track list is 13 songs, including a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's Fortunate Son and Love Kills, which Alex Cox had commissioned for the soundtrack of Sid and Nancy in 1986.
David Cleary of AllMusic called it one of the band's best, noting that the tempos were slowed from standard hardcore and picking Casualty Vampire, I Don't and Beat Me Senseless as highlights. In Maximum Rocknroll in January 1988, Dr. Frank wrote that it was, surprisingly, a really good record. It was the last studio album before the band dissolved in 1990.
