Eric B. & Rakim's Paid in Full came out in 1987 from their debut album of the same name. Coldcut were commissioned to remix it for the single, with the result subtitled Seven Minutes of Madness. They were paid 700 pounds. Jonathan More had been playing Ofra Haza's Im Nin'alu in clubs and found that slowing it down made it sync perfectly with the Ashley's Roachclip drum sample. The remix opens with the actor Geoffrey Sumner saying that this is a journey into sound, and adds a line from Humphrey Bogart in The Big Sleep and samples from Don Pardo, the Peech Boys and the Salsoul Orchestra.

The remix reached number 15 in the UK, and in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK it was a top fifteen hit. Haza's 1984 album Yemenite Songs sold much more after the remix, though she took issue with not being told of the sample. Eric B. dismissed the remix as girly disco music, while Rakim called it the best remix he had ever heard. Dorian Lynskey of The Guardian named it a benchmark remix, and Chuck Eddy of Spin called it Coldcut's greatest moment.
