Hold On It Hurts
The debut album: ten short, noisy songs that caught David Byrne's ear.
Cornershop, 1994
- Released
- 31 January 1994
- Label
- Wiiija
- Producer
- John Wills, Tjinder Singh and John Robb
Released on 31 January 1994 by Wiiija, Hold On It Hurts failed to reach commercial success. David Byrne was impressed and signed the band to Luaka Bop. John Wills produced five tracks, Singh produced five, and John Robb co-produced several tracks. The band at the time was Singh on vocals and bass, Avtar Singh and Wallis Healey on guitar, Ben Ayres on guitar and vocals, Anthony Saffery on sitar and keyboards, and David Chambers on drums.
Trouser Press called it a politically charged popfest that melded incisive social commentary with a firm hold on British post-punk, and singled out Counteraction as a straight-up Indian pop tune and Tera Mera Pyar as the story of a self-obsessed Indian film star. The US edition added the four tracks of the Lock Stock & Double~Barrel EP. In 2015 the band re-recorded the whole album in an easy-listening style with the Elastic Big Band as Hold On It's Easy.
