April in Paris

The 1932 Broadway song that Basie recorded with a false ending and a call for one more once.
Count Basie & His Orchestra

Written by
Vernon Duke, Yip Harburg

Vernon Duke and Yip Harburg wrote it for the 1932 musical Walk a Little Faster. Basie's recording, from the album of the same name, is the best known and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The arrangement was by Wild Bill Davis. Thad Jones played his Pop Goes the Weasel solo, trombonist Benny Powell played a much-noted bridge, and Basie tells the band to play the shout chorus one more time and then one more once.

The Library of Congress calls the recording "joyous, brassy", with "the famous false ending". A revised arrangement appeared in a cameo by the orchestra in Blazing Saddles in 1974.
