The lead single from Sons of the P reached 40 on the Hot 100, 13 on the R&B chart and 5 on the rap chart, and went gold on 5 March 1992. Boni Boyer, who had worked with Prince's Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy band shortly before, sang the layered choruses. The video showed a choir, but the studio singing was all hers apart from the male voices.
George Clinton is credited as a writer because the song samples Funkadelic's (Not Just) Knee Deep, though it has been wrongly reported that he co-wrote or performed on it. The group performed it on Showtime at the Apollo in 1991 after pretending to be an unknown act in paper bags. The New York Times writer James Bernard called it an irresistible, playful ode to cuddling and snuggling. Money-B has said Tommy Boy later pressed Shock G to make another one.
