Bug was written quickly to follow You're Living All Over Me and recorded at Fort Apache with Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie. Mascis said the band was falling apart, and Barlow remembered him approaching it drained of enthusiasm. Mascis calls it his least favorite Dinosaur Jr. album, but it opens with Freak Scene, their most played song, and topped the British independent chart; NME rated it eight point nine nine nine nine nine nine out of ten. Barlow sings the closing Don't. He was out of the band within a year.
